Among the National Cheese Days, National Dog Days, National French Fry Days and the like, we’ve uncovered a little something called National Bad Poetry Day.
Never heard of it? We’re not surprised. This holiday seems to float by under the radar – probably because it has nothing to do with food. Still, it’s a day where we can appreciate poetry, and not just the fancy schmancy stuff we had to read through school. Instead, we can take a more lighthearted approach by flexing our creative muscles and writing a silly poem or two.
So that’s what we asked you Tappers to do last week – write a fun, bad poem with an end-of-summer theme. A handful of you improvised on “Roses are red, violets are blue,” while others wrote jovial goodbye poems to this wretched summer heat. Perhaps one day we’ll compile a Crowdtap literary journal of poems, but for today we’ll leave you with our five picks for best bad poem. We list them with no commentary, so analyze as you wish!
Summer was such a bummer,
I didn’t get my pink hummer
And I actually felt dumber.
Guess that’s what I get…
For dating a drummer.

The summer sun is almost done
Falling leaves are soon to come
Back to school our children go
Parents have time to run to and fro
Crowdtap is a great distraction
From helping our child with subtraction
And while this poems is pretty bad
I hope it made you a little glad!

Sleepy heads and messy hair
Trying to dress my 2nd grader as she gives me a death stare
Running late, missing a shoe
I’m sure I’m forgetting something I’m supposed to do
Tangly hair, and mismatched socks
Still running late as the clock goes tick-tock
Finally make it out the door, and as she walks up to the school I shed a tear
Another year older, another start to a new school year.

Oh dear heat, I won’t miss you at all
I cannot wait for the next season: fall
The heat you brought made me tear up
It even brought distress to my little pup
But worries are no more friends
Since this season is finally coming to its ends
Now we can welcome cool weather
And rejoice in it together

Goodbye kids, it’s off to school!
Hopefully your friends think you are cool
Now it’s my turn to use the pool!
-By Cheryl G.
How’s that for your daily dose of poetry? We hope some of these made you smile! Next week we’re back to our regularly scheduled programing of photo-heavy Thumbs Up Thursdays. Head on over to Crowdtap right now to complete next week’s fun mission!
