Whether you’re new to Instagram or have been racking up double-digit likes on the regular, Instagram Stories offers a new way to capture and share daily moments. What’s different about it? No hashtags or likes, and a brief 24-hour lifespan. It seems simple, but, much like Snapchat, allows for a less curated glimpse into the lives of your friends and family. Because of the ephemeral nature of Instagram Stories, posters worry less about creating a lasting impression and more on quickly sharing the ins and outs of their day.
If you’re a regular Instagram user, you’ve probably noticed a new module featuring stories showing up on your IG timeline. Friends who have posted stories have their cover photos portrayed in the module. Clicking on a poster’s image allows you to see a strung-together series of clips of their perspective. ‘Grammers have used them to cover events, host Q&A sessions, or show followers how to make tasty snacks. We kinda like ’em for product unveilings and how-tos, or to show our friends what our #wfh (work from home) days are like.
Here’s how to create one:
Tap on the plus button found on the top-left side of your home screen or swipe left in your Instagram feed. You can also quickly launch Stories by swiping right from the main screen…
Tap the circle button at the bottom of the screen to take photos or tap and hold to record a video, or swipe down on the screen to access photos and videos taken within the last 24 hours.
Swipe left or right to scroll through various filters.
You can also edit photos or videos with a text overlay, or add a drawing. If you hit the pen icon, there are three types of pens. The third one makes your sketch look like a neon sign.
Tap Done to save your Story.
Tap the check-mark button to share to your Story.
Repeat steps 2 through 6 to add more Stories to you series. Your followers will be able to swipe through these for 24 hours.
That’s it! You’re now ready to share your day with the world.
