Most years, the second half of March brings the first whiffs of warm air and tentative tweets of returning birds. Though the temperatures may still technically require a jacket, those early signs of spring usually imbue us with enough hope to shed a few layers. Not the case this year though!
Though Winter Storm Stella was downgraded from Blizzard status before touching down here in the Northeast, it still dragged in enough sleet, ice, and snow to keep spring hopes firmly on hold for the time being. How are our elite members coping? Let’s take a look.
Jinna Yang, of Project Inspo, starts us of with these wise words:
“Put good things into your body, and you’d be amazed at how much good will come out.
This isn’t about being a crazy health nut and preventing yourself from indulging in things every once in a while. It’s about being mindful about your body, and focusing on becoming stronger — mentally AND physically.”
We couldn’t agree more, even if we are binging on our second pack of mini-muffins as we write this. Read More
Did you happen to catch parts of our Instagram Story this weekend? If you did, you already know that this week we took your feedback to the next level –not just soliciting info on your favorite Austin haunts, but actually checking them out in person!
On Thursday, the Crowdtap crew landed in Austin to get ready for SXSW Interactive, a yearly conference jam-packed with awesome panels on technology, marketing, and social issues. To ensure a rocking time full of the best Austin has to offer, we turned to YOU by launching a series of polls asking you to give us the scoop on everything from your favorite local dishes to your best general advice. If our newly-acquired potbellies prove one thing, it’s that our members definitely know a good taco when they see one.
Let’s dive in to your advice in a little more detail. Read More
While we’re marching along through this weirdly spring-like winter season, we’ve taken to showing love to our canine counterparts as a way of distracting ourselves from the warm-cold-colder-then-suddenly-unseasonably-warm-weather emotional roller coaster that’s been highlighting the sadly limited layering options in our wardrobes. Dogs have enviably versatile coats, after all.
Thanks to the recent content created by some of our top Tappers, we’ve been ooh-ing and aaww-ing over a few prime examples of elite dogtappers and how their owners like to show them love. Scroll on for an abundance of cuteness.
Here’s a dog after our own heart: At every meal, Winston runs over to his bed and lays down until the food is made and Lynzy tells him he can eat. Though this pup is still learning, we’re confident Winston’s going to keep this growing family entertained for years to come.
First things first:
Hey – not too shabby! Most of you had a pretty good idea of what you were actually celebrating last week!
As for the rest of you, it’s never too late for a quick refresher. While the start of Mardi Gras is rooted in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, today it is celebrated mostly in New Orleans, alongside a handful of other states across the country. Full of delicious food (did someone say King Cake?), music and dance filled celebrations, and parades brimming with vibrant masks and costumes, Mardi Gras is a boisterous carnival celebration before the holiday of Lent. It’s a chance for people to enjoy life to the fullest before they must give up certain pleasures leading up to Easter.
Now, if there’s one thing most of us are great at, it’s enjoying life to the fullest. When we asked what some of your great memories from Mardi Gras past were, here’s how you responded.
We know this unseasonably-warm weather is probably not a great sign in the bigger scheme of things, but…man, is it pleasant! While most winters (especially here at Crowdtap HQ in NYC) are spent shivering and dreaming of island beach vacations, we’ve so far been feeling pretty happy with some adventurous, spring-y staycations!
The posts we’ve chosen today are inspiring staycations for us (they’re in New York!), but we pulled out the best sentiments so that anyone, anywhere can set up a perfectly adventurous day in the coming months.
Let’s take a look!
Get active outside.
Whether you’re walking or biking, ‘blading or skateboarding, pogo-sticking or something else entirely, when the weather is nice there’s nothing better than taking a little vacation outside your front door. Blogger Jinna Yang from Project Inspo zaps stress and calms her mind by taking a ride on her board – much more accessible than a weekend in Bora Bora. Find an outdoor activity you love and dedicate a beautiful day to practicing and really enjoying it! We think you’ll feel (almost) as refreshed as if you’d spent a day at a spa somewhere surrounded by palm trees.
With last night’s Academy Awards (congrats, Moonlight!), the award show season has come to a close. Throughout the past couple of days, we asked you about your interests and preferences when it comes to film and TV award shows. Here’s what you told us!
Most of you don’t follow award shows – but of those who do, 26% follow the Academy Awards.
For the ladies in your life, that Hallmark holiday we know as V-Day is now secondary to the treat yourself, lady-power celebration known as Galentine’s Day. Even better? Galentine’s Day isn’t just one day – you and your BFFs can celebrate any time by indulging in a little self care.
Across social media, our tastemakers shared their tips for little ways to take care of yourself and your friends, and we’re passing them along to you! Check out these posts and start prepping for your next treat day — you deserve it.
Our top tip for effectively caring for yourself? Schedule time! Write in reminders or jot down set dates to do things that make you happy and/or give you energy. Blogger Stephanie of The Vintage Modern Wife blocks out time for herself to go to the gym, but also to grab a mimosa with a friend!
Every year, the month of February celebrates the achievements and progress of black Americans during Black History Month, from entertainment to politics, sports to science, and beyond.
While there’s plenty of discussion about the singular nature of a commemorative month, we wanted to find out how different people immersed themselves in the cultural moment that Black History Month provides. Here are the results!
If you’ve ever found yourself knee-deep in an intense Google search at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday trying to find the most effective eye cream or scanning reviews for face mask after face mask, you are not alone.
When you get sucked into that cycle of searching for the perfect beauty product, it’s really difficult to escape its clutches! There are hundreds and hundreds of companies to choose from, products to comb through, reviews to read, and before-and-after photos to click through. It becomes pretty overwhelming pretty fast.
That’s why here at Crowdtap we’re true believers in taking a deep breath, taking a step back, and going back to the basics from time to time, We think it’s important not only to focus on what you’re putting on your body, but also on what you’re putting IN your body! Seriously – how lucky are we to have a vessel that protects us, nourishes us, gets us where we need to go, and is all around awesome. Sometimes it’s best to reward our bodies in more natural ways.
Take one of our Tastemakers, Kendall Rae, who has been on quite the smoothie kick. In her video (below), Kendall breaks down how to make three of her favorite smoothies. As a bonus, they’re all green, and they’re all delicious! Read More
Oh boy – it’s that February holiday we all love to hate, or hate to love, or perhaps just enjoy ignoring?
However you personally happen to feel about Valentines day, anyone can point out the qualities of the holiday that make it divisive. For instance – if you’re in a relationship, how long you’ve been in a relationship, whether or not you’re deathly allergic to chocolate, your financial situation. These are all
factors that can affect how joyously (or not) you celebrate the holiday of love.
Fascinating, right? That’s why we wanted to get the scoop not only on what your plans are for tomorrow evening, but your thoughts, feelings, and histories concerning the holiday! Here’s a bit of what we uncovered:
A whopping 61% of you are celebrating Valentines Day this year, and make it a point to celebrate every year! 9% of you admitted that you don’t usually partake, but this year you are totally planning on doing something special. (That makes us smile!) As for the rest? A combined 29% of you feel rather “meh” about the whole ordeal. Read More
